Social justice theme of SJU conference

COLLEGEVILLE
— The third annual Conference on the College Male is Feb. 17-19 in the Quadrangle Building at St. John’s University (SJU) in Collegeville. The theme for this year’s conference is, “Men and Social Justice.” The event is hosted by the Center for Men’s Lead-ership and Service at SJU.
The keynote speakers are Michael Kaufman, who presents the opening keynote at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 17 in the Alumni Lounge, and Shaun Harper, who presents the closing keynote, “Be More Like Your Brother: Honoring and Replicating the Best in College Men,” at 4:45 p.m. Feb. 18 in Quad 264. Each keynote speaker will present a pre- or post-conference workshop, which will be facilitated by the Center for Men’s Leadership and Service.
A featured panel will discuss the topic, “Understanding the Young Muslim Male Perspective,” from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. Feb. 18. The panel is moderated by Manju Parikh, associate professor of political science at CSB/SJU. Fifteen breakout sessions will also be presented during three time slots that day.
The conference is open to men and women. There is a $40 registration fee for faculty, staff, professionals and the general public, and a $25 registration fee for students who do not attend the College of St. Benedict or SJU.
While earlier pre-registration is preferred, interested individuals may register in person at 5 p.m. on Feb. 17 in the Great Hall at SJU.

Pottery to be on display at monastery

ST. JOSEPH
— “New Works from the Johanna Kiln,” a gallery show presenting the works of Richard Bresnahan, will begin Feb. 19 with an opening reception at 2 p.m. at the Art and Heritage Place/Whitby Gift Shop and Gallery at St. Benedict’s Monastery, 104 Chapel Lane, St. Joseph. The gallery exhibit continues through March 26. All exhibited pieces will be available for purchase.
Bresnahan is currently an artist-in-residence at St. John’s University (SJU) where he has his own studio. Each creation of Bresnahan’s is made from materials found in the 10-mile radius of SJU. His works have become collectors’ items internationally due to his unique technique.

Bowling benefit to aid those addicted

COLD SPRING
— St. Cloud Hospital’s Recovery Plus program is hosting a bowling fundraiser for the Bernie Belling Recovery Fund from noon to 3 p.m. on March 5 at the Cold Spring Bowling Lanes, 206 Main St., Cold Spring.
The Bernie Belling Recovery Fund is a scholarship program for people in need of financial assistance entering treatment at Recovery Plus for alcohol and drug addiction.
Registration deadline is Feb. 22. Team registration forms are available at two St. Cloud locations: the CentraCare Health Foundation office at the St. Cloud Hospital, 1406 6th Ave. N., or at Recovery Plus, 713 Anderson Ave. To register for the fundraiser or make a donation, contact the CentraCare Health Foundation at 320-240-2810.

CHS students put on ‘Pajama Game’

ST. CLOUD
— The musical, “The Pajama Game,” presented by Cathedral High School (CHS), will be performed Feb. 23-25 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. Performances will be at the Holy Angels Performing Arts Center located on the CHS/John XXIII Middle School Campus.
All tickets are reserved seating and can be purchased at the CHS main office or at the door prior to the show. Ticket prices are: $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and $5 for students. Contact CHS at 320-251-3421 for more information.

Cathedral hosts ‘candlelight concert’

ST. CLOUD
— The Rose Ensemble from Minneapolis will present “A Candlelight Concert in Lent” at 7:30 p.m. on March 10 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud.
In celebration of their 10th anniversary, the ensemble will present the work from their very first performance — the haunting Requiem by Spanish Renaissance composer Tomas-Luis de Victoria. The concert will also feature the premiere of a new work by Belorussian-Minnesotan composer, Sergey Khvoshchinskiy. Tickets will be available the evening of the concert for $12.
